Soil moisture is a vital factor for the proper development of plants, which directly affects yield, since without the moisture necessary to be used by plants, they do not grow in the ideal form. The soil’s capacity to retain moisture that is used by plants, is called “Usable Moisture”, and varies depending on the type of soil and practices used in the production system. The “moisture content” of the soil determines the amount of water in the soil, while the “moisture potential” indicates the degree of adhesion of water to soil particles, as it affects the air content and salinity of the soil.
