The amount of water needed for irrigation at any moment depends on four factors: soil moisture level, soil type, crop type and its phenological phase, weather forecast. There are many companies that provide irrigation advice, but none have any real knowledge of soil moisture because the FDR/TDR probes provide representative data of a few cm, while the satellite cannot penetrate deep into the soil.
