Drip irrigation or trickle irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip. Drip irrigation involves placing tubing with emitters on the ground along side the plants. The emitters slowly drip water into the soil at the root zone. This type of irrigation made it very difficult to measure soil moisture with point probes, since a few cm difference in probe placement results in a large variation in soil water content. Thanks to Finapp, this problem is brilliantly overcome, since our CRNS probes provide a soil moisture value representative of the entire plot, including both the wet part near the plant and the dry part of the inter-row.
